Experience

  • September 2018 - December 2023

Successfully managed all aspects of litigation, encompassing Premise, Commercial Auto, General, Texas Non-Subscriber, Employment Claims & Litigation, EEOC/DOL/OSHA Agency Complaints, and Wage/Hour Class Action cases. Serving as a key figure in resolving catastrophic and litigated matters against JB Hunt and its customers, I provided meticulous oversight and review of outside counsel, ensuring compliance with clear guidelines and budgets. My responsibilities extended to conducting financial analyses of loss exposure, applying practical views to reserving practices. Cultivating and maintaining relationships with outside counsel specialists was a crucial aspect, involving the continuous review of attorney work product to align with company guidelines. I demonstrated readiness to travel immediately to accident scenes, coordinating investigations and meeting claimants in person to minimize company exposure. Additionally, I remained on call to support night safety, offering guidance and coordinating legal representation when needed. Attending depositions, mediations, and trials was a regular commitment to manage outcomes favorably for the company, while also ensuring timely reporting of claims to insurance carriers and maintaining regular communication throughout the claim lifecycle. My dedication to staying abreast of litigation trends in the transportation sector was evident through active participation in industry seminars and training sessions.

  • November 2016 - September 2018

Handled diverse risk management responsibilities. This included overseeing the purchase of insurance programs and managing losses under those programs. I efficiently coordinated Certificate of Insurance compliance with the Contract Management System, ensuring seamless operations. Timely reporting, accident investigation, and settlement authority were integral aspects of my risk management duties. In the realm of Workers Compensation, I navigated self-insurance programs in Arkansas and Oklahoma, while also overseeing fully insured Workers Comp claims in Alabama, Georgia, and for Out-of-State individual workers. My responsibilities extended to ensuring compliance with State Work Comp Commissions, overseeing industrial nursing activities for first aid triage and return to work restrictions, and managing compliance with ADA regulations. In the domain of security, I played a vital role in securing points of entry to facilities, ensuring compliance with Department of Homeland Security rules for high exposure facilities, and meticulously tracking the entry and exit of employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors. Wastewater management involved compliance with EPA and DEQ Best Practices for water treatment and pre-treatment, as well as managing chemical use in treatment and pre-treatment plants. Environmental responsibilities included monitoring and reporting Air Quality, managing SPCC and SWPPP (Stormwater) plans, and overseeing spill prevention, response, and cleanup efforts. In Occupational Health & Safety, I upheld compliance with industry best practices, conducted training, and ensured adherence to OSHA requirements. Leading accident investigations and implementing 5-Why root cause tracking were key components, along with conducting plant audits for OSHA compliance and responding to OSHA investigations. My overarching responsibility was to oversee all plant activities for compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.

  • February 2008 – October 2016

Overseeing General, Product, Commercial Auto, and Texas Non-Subscriber claims, with a focus on managing complex claims from strategy development to proof of loss preparation, negotiation, and clear communication of expectations to financial planning teams. I provided valuable technical expertise supporting strategies related to insurance, risk financing, accounting, tax implications, and contractual risk transfer. With strong communication skills, I maintained regular exposure to Business and Finance leadership. Coordination with Quality Assurance on product recalls (specifically in the Food industry) was a critical aspect of my responsibilities. I adeptly adjusted catastrophic property claims arising from fire, windstorm, flood, hurricane, and tornado incidents, ensuring compliance with SOX regulations related to claim handling. Additionally, I oversaw audits related to Claim Handling and Captive Program Compliance. Managing the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) software, I implemented new technologies and interfaces with HR, Accounts Payable, and Safety systems. Generating executive reports on large losses, I collaborated as a Technology Team partner with Safety and Maintenance teams, specifically in Transportation systems. My role also involved evaluating the adequacy of retention and limits, conducting coverage terms and condition analysis relative to exposure bases, and implementing scorecards to track progress in safety and reducing the overall cost of risk.
